“In Georgia, tea is sweet, lemony, and on ice - hot tea is only for when you aren’t well. I left Georgia and my roots to see the world and to study art. And the purpley- golden moments that followed... They’re sort of personal but at the same time, universal. Things that come to mind are: petting the family cat, right man proposing, having babies, singing those babies to sleep, hanging out with friends, really, the simple things. It’s true, that, in the immortal words of Billy Connolly, “we’re just here to make babies and look after the place”. Trying to show all these different moments was the challenge. For me, traveling has been the common link in all the happiest times. I remember the first time I saw the windmills in Holland, and the Alps, and heard the church bells in Vienna. My travels then inadvertently led me to Ireland, where I now have my own roots. The shredded map alludes to the travels, part of the piece is about the Georgia I left behind, part is about the Ireland I’ve adopted as my own - it’s all personal, but hopefully universal too”.
